VERSE:
“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye. Matthew 7:3-5 (NIV)
THOUGHT:
Have you ever been worked up about someone else’s behaviour only to realize that you’re guilty of the same thing? You get upset at a gossip, but are quick to ask, “have you heard the latest?” You rail at sexual immorality, but leer at every attractive woman that walks by. It seems that our self-righteousness often follows a path of personal “least-resistance”. Christ instructs us to stop being judgmental. Our spiritual focus should be inward, not outward. Let’s fix what is broken in our own lives before presuming to deal with others.
