New Faculty at Booth College
Booth College welcomed several new faculty members this summer. Dr Matthew Kwok joined the faculty as Assistant Academic Dean, Registrar and Assistant Professor of Interdisciplinary Studies. Professors Alex Sawatsky and Buetta Warkentin joined the faculty as Assistant Professors of Social Work. Major Ian Swan was appointed to Booth College as Associate Dean for Extended Learning and Major Wendy Swan was appointed as Extended Learning Program Director. Majors Swan hold appointments at both Booth College and the College for Officer Training. Cadet Barb Stanley is serving at the College this year as Pastoral Care and Counselling Services Coordinator.
New Academic Dean
With the departure of Dr Donald Burke from the role of Vice President and Academic Dean, Dr Jonathan Dyck has been appointed as the new Academic Dean. Dr Dyck has been at Booth College for 6½ years and has served as Associate Dean for Extended Learning and most recently as Associate Academic Dean.
25th Anniversary Opening Convocation
Booth College marked the opening of its 25th academic year with an opening Convocation at the end of September. Commissioner Bill Francis, International Secretary for the Americas, was the guest speaker.
Digging Up the Past
For a second consecutive summer, Dr Jonathan Dyck participated in an archaeological dig at Hazor in Israel. Tell Hazor features in the story of the conquest of Joshua and in the building activities of Solomon. The highlight of the season for Dr Dyck was uncovering the first Early Bronze floor to be discovered at Hazor. Future plans call for Dr Dyck to teach an archaeology course and to lead a student group from Booth College to participate in an archaeological dig in Israel.

Renewed Emphasis on Spiritual Life
Building on the strong foundation that has been laid over the past several years, Booth College has renewed its focus on spiritual life. The chapel program has been enhanced through the addition of an additional chapel each week. Under the direction of Major Brenda Smith, the chapel program includes a student life assembly each Monday, a worship service each Wednesday and a variety of prayer and worship styles each Friday. In addition, the College has introduced a student portfolio program that will include the development of a spiritual life portfolio during a student’s time at Booth. In addition, a new spiritual development assessment program has been developed for students.
