Mission Mexico - Day 8

March 29th, 2007 · No Comments

Thank you for praying for Carmellita as she was feeling much better today.  She was dancing and talking much more with us and so was her older sister, Michel.

Everyday, our bond with the children grows stronger.  Al has been teaching the girls how to wink - it is like a “kiss with the eye.”  Linda has been sewing purses with the girls and they will be completed tomorrow.

Construction is also going along very well.  We can now see the end to our projects coming soon.  The painting should be all done tomorrow and it looks great.  The men will start tiling the floor in the bathroom.  Then they will be ready to install sinks and showers.

A few of us have attempted to perfect the art of laundering in Mexico.  First you must fill the tank (using a hose if necessary) and then you might have to wait to refill during the rinse cycle.  Then you hang your clean clothes on a clothesline consisting of two twisted-up ropes.  It is very difficult to un-twist the rope and then quickly tuck the corners of your clothes in between them.  It really hurts the thumbs!

Today was Caryn´s birthday and we celebrated with cake at lunch followed by a piƱata.  The kids had a great time diving into the dirt for the fallen candies as Caryn swung at it with a stick blindfolded.  Some of the candies were quite strange, like corn lollipop with chili?  We let the kids enjoy the candy.

After working the afternoon, the team piled into the vans and went to Senor Frogs Restaurant for a birthday celebration.  We enjoyed dancing the macarena on top of chairs and wearing balloon hats.  Pictures will follow tomorrow!
