Saturday was a day to finish up odd jobs and the last day of the VBS program. While we finished washing the windows, we had to distract the pig to wash the one side of the boys dorm. That was a very silly sight! Al, Tom, George and Jason finished the outside shower.
The family of 3 children and 3 adults that was mentioned in the last post, left early in the morning. Linda gave them packed lunch and lots to drink. Supposedly they had no ID or papers with the them and had been left behind when coming from Guatemala.
For the last day of VBS, we had 65 kids. Pamela´s new nickname is now “Woody” for the cowboy costume she wore for the opening drama. It was a hot day, and the kids enjoyed cooling off with a water fight. Stephanie played baseball in the ball diamond with the kids.
After VBS, we all showered and headed off to town. We took “pulmonias” to go shopping, sight-seeing, and supper. Half of us came back at 9:30 and the other half took a pulmonia until they reached the village, and were then escorted by a police officer! He was concerned for there safety and was kind enough to let them take pictures afterwards.
On Sunday, Jason organized the meeting and preached a KISS message at the request of Doug. So Jason gave Doug a “kiss” to begin the message and embarrass Doug. Steph gave her testimony and we sang choruses to recorded band music. We concluded the service by marching to the chorus, ”I have decided to follow Jesus.”
After lunch, Doug and Tom had a siesta. Linda was also having a siesta in her tent when she heard Pam, Joey, George and Janet moving “tent city” to make room for a presentation later. She laid quietly in her tent and when they came to move her, they couldn´t do it! They asked, “Should we take her suitcase out first?” But Linda started giggling, and they all burst out laughing.
When the tents were all moved, the children began a special presentation. They put on costumes and danced for us. The Major sang while they changed into new costumes and danced for us again. They invited a few women up to dance, and then a few men up to dance with machettes! It was great to see the transformation of the children in their elaborate costumes.
After dinner, we shared words of thanks and the Major presented us with certificates and gifts. Their were hugs all around as well as tears. Then we found out that Christian, Lupita, and Brenda (ages 14 and up) where leaving the home. It was a very sad time for them to leave their friends so suddenly. They need our prayers that their mother will be able to provide for them.
Today is the last post, as we will be spending the next day enjoying some sun at a resort. Our plane for home leaves Tuesday at noon. Thank you so much for following our journey and praying along the way.
